The 50’s was an era that can never be matched, and from it came an innocent rock’n’roll fad that created frenzy among the newest marketing target group: teenagers. What used to be a predominantly adult targeted industry began to see these teens as real potential for profits for the industry, putting forth more and more teen targeted tunes. The teens of the era were the main say in what was hot and what was not and their culture was quickly influencing the music industry greatly. The Second World War also had a large influence on the music industry as the economy of the U.S. flourished and music became more consumer-led.

The largest change in the 50’s within the community could be attributed to the teens that had previously been viewed as simple children before the 50’s and were beginning to show their independence and influence in the world. Adults started to realize just what influence these teenagers had in politics as well as the current industries. They became a large consumer base that dominated the music industry with stars like Elvis Presley forming to meet the demands of this group.

Teens nationwide started becoming interested in rock’n’roll as it was the new sounds of the time and they were extremely enthused with the shape the music industry was taking on.  There was resistance from the adults against this type of music which was deemed as demonic music at first, but shows such as the American Band Stand opened up the doors for this music to become a dominating force in the music industry. Doo wop also became known and quite fierce within the industry and teens couldn’t get enough. The adult music was changing to suit more consumers and the teenagers were the base of the market that was now being targeted and helping to shape the entire industry forever.
